Explanation
As-Samad is the Eternal Refuge, the Self-Sufficient Master whom all creatures need, but who needs no one. He does not eat, drink, or sleep. Every atom in the universe turns to As-Samad for its existence and needs. A "Samad" in Arabic is the chief to whom everyone turns in times of crisis, and who never turns anyone away. Allah is the ultimate Samad — the only true refuge when all worldly doors close.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet ﷺ heard a man make du'a saying: "O Allah, I ask You by virtue of the fact that You are Allah, the One, As-Samad..." The Prophet ﷺ said: "He has asked Allah by His Greatest Name, which if He is asked by it, He gives, and if He is supplicated by it, He answers." (Tirmidhi)
