Explanation

Al-Ghaffar is the Perpetual, Repeated Forgiver — the one who forgives sins again and again without limit. The Arabic intensive form "Ghaffar" (not just Ghafir) indicates constant, ongoing forgiveness. The root "ghafara" means to cover — Allah covers your sins and does not expose them. Al-Ghaffar conceals the sins of His servants not just in this world but on the Day of Judgment. No matter how many times a person sins and repents, Al-Ghaffar forgives — provided the repentance is sincere.

Virtues & Benefits

Prophet Nuh (AS) used this name to call his people to istighfar — promising them rain and prosperity in return. The Prophet ﷺ said: "By Allah, I seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him more than 70 times a day." Reciting "Astaghfirullah Al-Azim alladhi la ilaha illa huwa al-Hayyal Qayyum wa atubu ilayh" 100 times after Jumu'ah is among the most beloved acts to Al-Ghaffar.

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

"And said: Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever Al-Ghaffar (the Perpetual Forgiver)." - Surah Nuh (71:10)

Write down (privately, just for yourself) one sin that weighs on you — something you have been carrying for years. Then read Surah Az-Zumar, verse 53 (Allah forgives all sins). Now say "Astaghfirullah" 100 times, slowly, meaning every word. At the end, destroy the paper. Trust that Al-Ghaffar has covered this sin if you repented sincerely.
