Al-Qabid
"The Constrictor"
Explanation
Al-Qabid is the Withholder — the One who constricts and holds back provision, life, and expansion according to His wisdom. Importantly, Al-Qabid is always paired with Al-Basit (the Expander) in the Quran — showing that Allah alone controls the ebb and flow of all things. Times of "qabd" (constriction) in life — financial tightness, emotional hardship, reduced capacity — are from Al-Qabid's wisdom, not from abandonment.
Virtues & Benefits
Understanding Al-Qabid prevents panic in times of scarcity. The believing heart recognizes that both expansion and constriction come from the same Divine source, and neither is permanent. This name teaches contentment (qana'ah) — accepting what Al-Qabid has held back as His wise measure.
