Explanation
Al-Mumit is the Creator of Death, the Destroyer. Just as life is a creation of Allah, so is death. "He who created death and life to test you" (67:2). Al-Mumit determines the exact moment, place, and cause of every creature's death. He also causes the "death" of the ego (nafs) when a believer submits fully. Death is not a random accident; it is the precise decree of Al-Mumit.
Virtues & Benefits
Reflecting on Al-Mumit destroys the love of dunya and cures the fear of created things. Reciting "Ya Mumit" is historically practiced to subdue one's own ego and harmful desires, "putting to death" the base inclinations of the soul.
