Explanation
Ar-Ra'uf is the Most Kind, the Most Compassionate. While Rahma (mercy) can sometimes involve putting a person through hardship for their own good (like a bitter medicine), Ra'fa (compassion/kindness) is mercy without any pain. It is an intense, tender affection. Allah is Ar-Ra'uf because He warns us of the Fire, He makes the religion easy (not burdensome), and He treats our weaknesses with extreme gentleness.

Reciting "Ya Ra'uf" brings immense gentleness to one's character. It is invoked when seeking relief from severe hardship, asking Allah to bypass the "bitter medicine" of trials and deal with us using pure, painless kindness.
