Explanation
Al-Ahad is the Absolute One. While "Wahid" means one (as opposed to two or three), "Ahad" implies a uniqueness that cannot even be counted or compared. It is a more intense, exclusive oneness. He has no second, no equal, no parent, and no offspring. Bilal (RA) famously chanted "Ahad, Ahad" while being tortured, drawing strength from the absolute, incomparable Oneness of Allah against the multiplicity of idols.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas (which centers on Al-Ahad) is equal to one-third of the Quran. Calling upon Allah by "Al-Ahad" is part of the Greatest Name. It grants unshakeable fortitude in the face of oppression or overwhelming odds.
