Explanation
Al-Akhir is the Last, the One whose existence has no end. When all of creation perishes and the universe is destroyed, Al-Akhir will remain. "Everyone upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord" (55:26-27). He is the ultimate destination to which all things return. Relying on Al-Akhir means building for eternity, not for the temporary world.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet ﷺ prayed: "...and You are the Last, there is nothing after You." Reciting "Ya Akhir" detaches the heart from the love of the temporary world (dunya) and attaches it to the eternal Hereafter (Akhirah). It is a profound cure for grief over worldly losses.

هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ
