Al-'Alim
"The Knower of All"
Explanation
Al-'Alim is the All-Knowing — with knowledge that is infinite, eternal, and encompasses every particle of existence. He knows the seen and unseen, the past and the future, what is whispered in secrets and what is hidden in hearts. "Not a leaf falls but He knows it, and no grain in the darkness of the earth, and no moist or dry thing but that it is written in a clear record." (6:59). Al-'Alim's knowledge requires no learning, no updating, and no forgetting.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting "Ya Alim" increases one's own knowledge and grants understanding. Students, scholars, and seekers of knowledge are advised to recite this name frequently. The Prophet ﷺ taught the du'a: "Allahumma infa'ni bima allamtani wa 'allimni ma yanfa'uni — O Allah, benefit me with what You have taught me and teach me what benefits me."

- Nothing you do is hidden from Al-'Alim — your secret good deeds are recorded, and so are your private sins.
- Take comfort: Al-'Alim knows your pain even when no one else does.
- Seek knowledge as an act of worship — the more you learn about creation, the more you know Al-'Alim.
- Before any significant decision, make istikhara — ask Al-'Alim who knows your future to guide your unknowing present.
