Explanation
Al-Jalil is the Majestic, the Mighty, the One whose essential greatness is beyond description. Jalal refers to greatness in attributes (like power, glory, and anger). When we look at a beautiful sunset, we see Allah's Jamal (Beauty). When we look at a terrifying thunderstorm or a towering mountain, we see a reflection of His Jalal (Majesty). Al-Jalil inspires a profound, trembling awe and respect in the hearts of those who know Him.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting "Ya Jalil" frequently is said to grant a person an aura of dignity and respect. It removes the fear of worldly powers, replacing it with the awe of the Divine. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Keep strictly to 'Ya Dhal-Jalali wal-Ikram'." (Tirmidhi)
