Explanation
Al-Ghafur is the perfectly Forgiving. While Al-Ghaffar emphasizes the *quantity* of forgiveness (forgiving repeatedly), Al-Ghafur emphasizes the *quality* and *depth* of forgiveness (forgiving major sins, completely covering them). Al-Ghafur covers the sin, protects the sinner from its consequences, and wipes the slate clean. He is so forgiving that He transforms the sins of the repentant into good deeds (25:70).
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting "Ya Ghafur" brings relief from the heavy burden of guilt. The Prophet ﷺ taught Abu Bakr a special du'a for prayer: "O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none forgives sins but You. So grant me forgiveness from Yourself... Indeed You are Al-Ghafur, Ar-Rahim."
