Explanation
Al-Qayyum is the Sustainer, the Self-Subsisting. He exists entirely without need of anything, yet absolutely everything depends on Him to exist for even a millisecond. If Al-Qayyum withdrew His sustaining power for a moment, the universe would collapse into nothingness. He does not sleep or slumber (2:255) because His constant attention is required to sustain reality.
Virtues & Benefits
Reciting "Ya Qayyum" removes lethargy, laziness, and heedlessness. When combined with Al-Hayy, it is the ultimate appeal to Allah's essence. Calling upon Al-Qayyum reminds the believer that Allah is actively managing their life right now.
