📖 About Shaban (شعبان)

Shaban is the eighth month of the Islamic calendar, serving as a crucial month of preparation for Ramadan. The name "Shaban" comes from "tasha'aba" meaning "to scatter" or "to separate." Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to fast extensively during Shaban, more than any other month besides Ramadan. He (PBUH) said this is a month that people neglect between Rajab and Ramadan, and it is a month in which deeds are raised to the Lord of the Worlds. The most notable event in Shaban is Shab-e-Barat (Laylatul Bara'ah / Night of Forgiveness), observed on the 15th night of Shaban. Muslims believe that on this night, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and forgives those who seek forgiveness. The Qiblah (direction of prayer) was also changed from Jerusalem to Makkah during Shaban in the 2nd year of Hijra. Muslims should use this month to increase fasting, charity, and Quran recitation in preparation for Ramadan.
