📖 About Rajab (رجب)

Rajab is the seventh month of the Islamic calendar and one of the four sacred months (Ashhur al-Hurum) in which fighting is prohibited. The name comes from the Arabic word "rajaba" meaning "to respect." Rajab is also called "Rajab al-Murajjab" (the respected Rajab) and "Rajab al-Fard" (the solitary Rajab, as it stands alone among sacred months while the other three — Dhu al-Qadah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram — are consecutive). The most significant event in Rajab is Isra and Miraj (the Night Journey and Ascension), commemorated on 27th Rajab. On this night, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was taken from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem (Isra), and then ascended through the seven heavens to the presence of Allah (Miraj). During this journey, the five daily prayers were made obligatory for Muslims. Rajab is called the "Month of Allah" and marks the beginning of spiritual preparation for Ramadan.
