Overview
Iman (Faith) is the foundation of Islamic belief, encompassing belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree. The Prophet ﷺ defined Iman through the famous Hadith of Jibreel as believing in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and predestination. Authentic hadiths reveal that Iman has over sixty branches, with the highest being the testimony of faith and the lowest being removing harm from the road.
Key Lessons
Faith is not static — it increases with obedience and decreases with sin. A believer must continually renew and strengthen their Iman through dhikr, knowledge, and righteous deeds. The concept of Iman also encompasses action of the heart, tongue, and limbs.
Practical Guidance
Strengthen your faith by learning the six pillars of Iman deeply, attending Islamic circles, reading Quran daily, and making dua for firm faith (thabaat). Recite "Allahumma thabbit qalbi ala dinik" regularly. Avoid sins that weaken faith and seek repentance immediately.

Narrated Humaid:Anas bin Malik said, "Whenever the Prophet (ﷺ) went out with us to fight (in Allah's cause) against any nation, he never allowed us to attack till morning and he would wait and see: if he heard Adhan he would postpone the attack and if he did not hear Adhan he would attack them." Anas added, "We reached Khaibar at night and in the morning when he did not hear the Adhan for the prayer, he (the Prophet ) rode and I rode behind Abi Talha and my foot was touching that of the Prophet. The inhabitants of Khaibar came out with their baskets and spades and when they saw the Prophet (ﷺ) they shouted 'Muhammad! By Allah, Muhammad and his army.' When Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saw them, he said, "Allahu-Akbar! Allahu-Akbar! Khaibar is ruined. Whenever we approach a (hostile) nation (to fight), then evil will be the morning of those who have been warned
ہم سے قتیبہ بن سعید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے اسماعیل بن جعفر انصاری نے حمید سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے انس رضی اللہ عنہ سے انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ہمیں ساتھ لے کر کہیں جہاد کے لیے تشریف لے جاتے، تو فوراً ہی حملہ نہیں کرتے تھے۔ صبح ہوتی اور پھر آپ انتظار کرتے اگر اذان کی آواز سن لیتے تو حملہ کا ارادہ ترک کر دیتے اور اگر اذان کی آواز نہ سنائی دیتی تو حملہ کرتے تھے۔ انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ ہم خیبر کی طرف گئے اور رات کے وقت وہاں پہنچے۔ صبح کے وقت جب اذان کی آواز نہیں سنائی دی تو آپ اپنی سواری پر بیٹھ گئے اور میں ابوطلحہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے پیچھے بیٹھ گیا۔ چلنے میں میرے قدم نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے قدم مبارک سے چھو چھو جاتے تھے۔ انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ خبیر کے لوگ اپنے ٹوکروں اور کدالوں کو لیے ہوئے ( اپنے کام کاج کو ) باہر نکلے۔ تو انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھا، اور چلا اٹھے کہ ” «محمد والله محمد» ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) پوری فوج سمیت آ گئے۔“ انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے انہیں دیکھا تو آپ نے فرمایا «الله أكبر، الله أكبر» خیبر پر خرابی آ گئی۔ بیشک جب ہم کسی قوم کے میدان میں اتر جائیں تو ڈرائے ہوئے لوگوں کی صبح بری ہو گی۔
Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Mu'adh-dhin is saying
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف تنیسی نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہمیں امام مالک نے ابن شہاب زہری سے خبر دی، انہوں نے عطاء بن یزید لیثی سے، انہوں نے ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ سے، انہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہ جب تم اذان سنو تو جس طرح مؤذن کہتا ہے اسی طرح تم بھی کہو۔
Narrated `Isa bin Talha:that he had heard Muawiya repeating the words of Adhan up to "Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulul-lah (and I testify that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)
ہم سے معاذ بن فضالہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے ہشام دستوائی نے یحییٰ بن ابی کثیر سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے محمد بن ابراہیم بن حارث سے کہا کہ مجھ سے عیسیٰ بن طلحہ نے بیان کیا کہ انھوں نے معاویہ بن ابی سفیان سے ایک دن سنا آپ ( جواب میں ) مؤذن کے ہی الفاظ کو دہرا رہے تھے۔ «أشهد أن محمدا رسول الله» تک۔ ہم سے اسحاق بن راہویہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے وہب بن جریر نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے ہشام دستوائی نے یحییٰ بن ابی کثیر سے اسی طرح حدیث بیان کی۔
Narrated Yahya as above (586) and added:"Some of my companions told me that Hisham had said, "When the Mu'adh-dhin said, "Haiyi `alassala (come for the prayer)." Muawiya said, "La hawla wala quwata illa billah (There is neither might nor any power except with Allah)" and added, "We heard your Prophet saying the same
یحییٰ نے کہا کہ مجھ سے میرے بعض بھائیوں نے حدیث بیان کی کہ جب مؤذن نے «حى على الصلاة» کہا تو معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے «لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله» کہا اور کہنے لگے کہ ہم نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے ایسا ہی کہتے سنا ہے۔
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, 'Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa'imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu' [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection
ہم سے علی بن عیاش ہمدانی نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے شعیب بن ابی حمزہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے محمد بن المنکدر سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما سے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جو شخص اذان سن کر یہ کہے «اللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة والصلاة القائمة آت محمدا الوسيلة والفضيلة وابعثه مقاما محمودا الذي وعدته» اسے قیامت کے دن میری شفاعت ملے گی۔
Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots, and if they knew the reward of the Zuhr prayer (in the early moments of its stated time) they would race for it (go early) and if they knew the reward of `Isha' and Fajr (morning) prayers in congregation, they would come to offer them even if they had to crawl
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف تنیسی نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہمیں امام مالک نے سمی سے جو ابوبکر عبدالرحمٰن بن حارث کے غلام تھے خبر دی، انہوں نے ابوصالح ذکوان سے، انہوں نے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اگر لوگوں کو معلوم ہوتا کہ اذان کہنے اور نماز پہلی صف میں پڑھنے سے کتنا ثواب ملتا ہے۔ پھر ان کے لیے قرعہ ڈالنے کے سوائے اور کوئی چارہ نہ باقی رہتا، تو البتہ اس پر قرعہ اندازی ہی کرتے اور اگر لوگوں کو معلوم ہو جاتا کہ نماز کے لیے جلدی آنے میں کتنا ثواب ملتا ہے تو اس کے لیے دوسرے سے آگے بڑھنے کی کوشش کرتے۔ اور اگر لوگوں کو معلوم ہو جاتا کہ عشاء اور صبح کی نماز کا ثواب کتنا ملتا ہے، تو ضرور چوتڑوں کے بل گھسیٹتے ہوئے ان کے لیے آتے۔
Narrated `Abdullah bin Al-Harith:Once on a rainy muddy day, Ibn `Abbas delivered a sermon in our presence and when the Mu'adhdhin pronounced the Adhan and said, "Haiyi `ala-s-sala(t) (come for the prayer)" Ibn `Abbas ordered him to say 'Pray at your homes.' The people began to look at each other (surprisingly). Ibn `Abbas said. "It was done by one who was much better than I (i.e. the Prophet (ﷺ) or his Mu'adh-dhin), and it is a license
ہم سے مسدد بن مسرہد نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے حماد بن زید نے ایوب سختیانی اور عبدالحمید بن دینار صاحب الزیادی اور عاصم احول سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن حارث بصریٰ سے، انہوں نے کہا کہ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے ایک دن ہم کو جمعہ کا خطبہ دیا۔ بارش کی وجہ سے اس دن اچھی خاصی کیچڑ ہو رہی تھی۔ مؤذن جب «حى على الصلاة» پر پہنچا تو آپ نے اس سے «الصلاة في الرحال» کہنے کے لیے فرمایا کہ لوگ نماز اپنی قیام گاہوں پر پڑھ لیں۔ اس پر لوگ ایک دوسرے کو دیکھنے لگے۔ ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا کہ اسی طرح مجھ سے جو افضل تھے، انہوں نے بھی کیا تھا اور اس میں شک نہیں کہ جمعہ واجب ہے۔
Narrated Salim bin `Abdullah:My father said that Allah's Apostle said, "Bilal pronounces 'Adhan at night, so keep on eating and drinking (Suhur) till Ibn Um Maktum pronounces Adhan." Salim added, "He was a blind man who would not pronounce the Adhan unless he was told that the day had dawned
ہم سے عبداللہ بن مسلمہ قعنبی نے بیان کیا امام مالک سے، انہوں نے ابن شہاب سے، انہوں نے سالم بن عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے، انہوں نے اپنے والد عبداللہ بن عمر سے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ بلال تو رات رہے اذان دیتے ہیں۔ اس لیے تم لوگ کھاتے پیتے رہو۔ یہاں تک کہ ابن ام مکتوم اذان دیں۔ راوی نے کہا کہ وہ نابینا تھے اور اس وقت تک اذان نہیں دیتے تھے جب تک ان سے کہا نہ جاتا کہ صبح ہو گئی۔ صبح ہو گئی۔
Narrated Hafsa:When the Mu'adh-dhin pronounced the Adhan for Fajr prayer and the dawn became evident the Prophet ordered a two rak`at light prayer (Sunna) before the Iqama of the compulsory (congregational) prayer
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف تنیسی نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہمیں امام مالک نے نافع سے خبر دی، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے، انہوں نے کہا مجھے ام المؤمنین حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے خبر دی کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی عادت تھی کہ جب مؤذن صبح کی اذان صبح صادق کے طلوع ہونے کے بعد دے چکا ہوتا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اذان اور تکبیر کے بیچ نماز قائم ہونے سے پہلے دو ہلکی سی رکعتیں پڑھتے۔
Narrated `Aisha:The Prophet (ﷺ) used to offer two light rak`at between the Adhan and the Iqama of the Fajr prayer
ہم سے ابونعیم فضل بن دکین نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے شیبان نے یحییٰ بن ابی کثیر سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے ابوسلمہ بن عبدالرحمٰن بن عوف سے، انہوں نے عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم فجر کی اذان اور اقامت کے درمیان دو ہلکی سی رکعتیں پڑھتے تھے۔
