Overview
Iman (Faith) is the foundation of Islamic belief, encompassing belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree. The Prophet ﷺ defined Iman through the famous Hadith of Jibreel as believing in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and predestination. Authentic hadiths reveal that Iman has over sixty branches, with the highest being the testimony of faith and the lowest being removing harm from the road.
Key Lessons
Faith is not static — it increases with obedience and decreases with sin. A believer must continually renew and strengthen their Iman through dhikr, knowledge, and righteous deeds. The concept of Iman also encompasses action of the heart, tongue, and limbs.
Practical Guidance
Strengthen your faith by learning the six pillars of Iman deeply, attending Islamic circles, reading Quran daily, and making dua for firm faith (thabaat). Recite "Allahumma thabbit qalbi ala dinik" regularly. Avoid sins that weaken faith and seek repentance immediately.

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "A lady was punished because of a cat which she had imprisoned till it died. She entered the (Hell) Fire because of it, for she neither gave it food nor water as she had imprisoned it, nor set it free to eat from the vermin of the earth
مجھ سے عبداللہ بن محمد بن اسماء نے بیان کیا کہا ہم سے جویریہ بن اسماء نے بیان کیا، ان سے نافع نے ان سے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ” ( بنی اسرائیل کی ) ایک عورت کو ایک بلی کی وجہ سے عذاب دیا گیا تھا جسے اس نے قید کر رکھا تھا جس سے وہ بلی مر گئی تھی اور اس کی سزا میں وہ عورت دوزخ میں گئی۔ جب وہ عورت بلی کو باندھے ہوئے تھی تو اس نے اسے کھانے کے لیے کوئی چیز نہ دی، نہ پینے کے لیے اور نہ اس نے بلی کو چھوڑا ہی کہ وہ زمین کے کیڑے مکوڑے ہی کھا لیتی۔“
Narrated Abu Masud: `Uqba said:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "One of the sayings of the prophets which the people have got is, 'If you do not feel ashamed, then do whatever you like
ہم سے احمد بن یونس نے بیان کیا، ان سے زہیر نے کہا ہم سے منصور نے بیان کیا ان سے ربعی بن حراش نے کہا ہم سے ابومسعود عقبہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”لوگوں نے اگلے پیغمبروں کے کلام جو پائے ان میں یہ بھی ہے کہ جب تجھ میں حیاء نہ ہو تو پھر جو جی چاہے کر۔“
Narrated Abu Mas'ud:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "One of the sayings of the prophets which the people have got is, 'If you do not feel ashamed, then do whatever you like
ہم سے آدم بن ابی ایاس نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا ان سے منصور نے بیان کیا انہوں نے کہا میں نے ربعی بن حراش سے سنا وہ ابومسعود انصاری رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کرتے تھے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”اگلے پیغمبروں کے کلام میں سے لوگوں نے جو پایا یہ بھی ہے کہ جب تجھ میں حیاء نہ ہو پھر جو جی چاہے کر۔“
Narrated Ibn `Umar:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "While a man was walking, dragging his dress with pride, he was caused to be swallowed by the earth and will go on sinking in it till the Day of Resurrection
ہم سے بشر بن محمد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو عبداللہ بن مبارک نے خبر دی، کہا ہم کو یونس نے خبر دی، انہیں زہری نے، انہیں سالم نے خبر دی اور ان سے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”ایک شخص تکبر کی وجہ سے اپنا تہبند زمین سے گھسیٹتا ہوا جا رہا تھا کہ اسے زمین میں دھنسا دیا اور اب وہ قیامت تک یوں ہی زمین میں دھنستا چلا جائے گا۔“ یونس کے ساتھ اس حدیث کو عبدالرحمٰن بن خالد نے بھی زہری سے روایت کیا ہے۔
Narrated Abu Huraira:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "We are the last (to come) but we will be the foremost on the Day of Resurrection, nations were given the Book (i.e. Scripture) before us, and we were given the Holy Book after them. This (i.e. Friday) is the day about which they differed. So the next day (i.e. Saturday) was prescribed for the Jews and the day after it (i.e. Sunday) for the Christians. It is incumbent on every Muslim to wash his head and body on a Day (i.e. Friday) (at least) in every seven days
ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا کہا ہم سے وہیب نے بیان کیا کہا مجھ سے عبداللہ بن طاؤس نے بیان کیا ان سے ان کے والد نے اور ان سے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”ہم ( دنیا میں ) تمام امتوں کے آخر میں آئے لیکن ( قیامت کے دن ) تمام امتوں سے آگے ہوں گے۔ صرف اتنا فرق ہے کہ انہیں پہلے کتاب دی گئی اور ہمیں بعد میں ملی اور یہی وہ ( جمعہ کا ) دن ہے جس کے بارے میں لوگوں نے اختلاف کیا۔ یہودیوں نے تو اسے اس کے دوسرے دن ( ہفتہ کو ) کر لیا اور نصاریٰ نے تیسرے دن ( اتوار کو ) ۔“

Narrated Sa`id bin Al-Musaiyab:When Muawiya bin Abu Sufyan came to Medina for the last time, he delivered a sermon before us. He took out a tuft of hair and said, "I never thought that someone other than the Jews would do such a thing (i.e. use false hair). The Prophet (ﷺ) named such a practice, 'Az-Zur' (i.e. falsehood)," meaning the use of false hair
ہم سے آدم بن ابی ایاس نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا ان سے عمرو بن مرہ نے کہا کہ میں نے سعید بن مسیب سے سنا آپ نے بیان کیا کہ معاویہ بن ابی سفیان رضی اللہ عنہ نے مدینہ کے اپنے آخری سفر میں ہمیں خطاب فرمایا اور ( خطبہ کے دوران ) آپ نے بالوں کا ایک گچھا نکالا اور فرمایا، میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ یہودیوں کے سوا اور کوئی اس طرح نہ کرتا ہو گا اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس طرح بال سنوارنے کا نام «الزور» ( فریب و جھوٹ ) رکھا ہے۔ آپ کی مراد «وصال في الشعر.» سے تھی۔ یعنی بالوں میں جوڑ لگانے سے تھی ( جیسے اکثر عورتیں مصنوعی بالوں میں جوڑ کیا کرتی ہیں ) آدم کے ساتھ اس حدیث کو غندر نے بھی شعبہ سے روایت کیا ہے۔
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:Regarding the Verse: 'And (We) made you into Shu'ub and Qabail-- (49.13) that Shu'ub means the big Qabail (i.e. nations) while the Qabail (i.e. tribes) means the branch tribes
ہم سے خالد بن یزید الکاہلی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ابوبکر بن عیاش نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوحصین (عثمان بن عاصم) نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے آیت «وجعلناكم شعوبا وقبائل» کے متعلق فرمایا کہ «شعوب» بڑے قبیلوں کے معنی میں ہے اور «قبائل» سے کسی بڑے قبیلے کی شاخیں مراد ہیں۔
