Overview
Iman (Faith) is the foundation of Islamic belief, encompassing belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree. The Prophet ﷺ defined Iman through the famous Hadith of Jibreel as believing in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and predestination. Authentic hadiths reveal that Iman has over sixty branches, with the highest being the testimony of faith and the lowest being removing harm from the road.
Key Lessons
Faith is not static — it increases with obedience and decreases with sin. A believer must continually renew and strengthen their Iman through dhikr, knowledge, and righteous deeds. The concept of Iman also encompasses action of the heart, tongue, and limbs.
Practical Guidance
Strengthen your faith by learning the six pillars of Iman deeply, attending Islamic circles, reading Quran daily, and making dua for firm faith (thabaat). Recite "Allahumma thabbit qalbi ala dinik" regularly. Avoid sins that weaken faith and seek repentance immediately.

Narrated `Aisha:Abu Bakr came riding his horse from his dwelling place in As-Sunh. He got down from it, entered the Mosque and did not speak with anybody till he came to me and went directly to the Prophet, who was covered with a marked blanket. Abu Bakr uncovered his face. He knelt down and kissed him and then started weeping and said, "My father and my mother be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Prophet! Allah will not combine two deaths on you. You have died the death which was written for you." Narrated Abu Salama from Ibn `Abbas : Abu Bakr came out and `Umar , was addressing the people, and Abu Bakr told him to sit down but `Umar refused. Abu Bakr again told him to sit down but `Umar again refused. Then Abu Bakr recited the Tashah-hud (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)) and the people attended to Abu Bakr and left `Umar. Abu Bakr said, "Amma ba'du, whoever amongst you worshipped Muhammad, then Muhammad is dead, but whoever worshipped Allah, Allah is alive and will never die. Allah said: 'Muhammad is no more than an Apostle and indeed (many) Apostles have passed away before him ..(up to the) grateful.' " (3.144) (The narrator added, "By Allah, it was as if the people never knew that Allah had revealed this verse before till Abu Bakr recited it and then whoever heard it, started reciting it)

Narrated Kharija bin Zaid bin Thabit:Um Al-`Ala', an Ansari woman who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (ﷺ) said to me, "The emigrants were distributed amongst us by drawing lots and we got in our share `Uthman bin Maz'un. We made him stay with us in our house. Then he suffered from a disease which proved fatal when he died and was given a bath and was shrouded in his clothes, Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) came I said, 'May Allah be merciful to you, O Abu As-Sa'ib! I testify that Allah has honored you'. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'How do you know that Allah has honored him?' I replied, 'O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Let my father be sacrificed for you! On whom else shall Allah bestow His honor?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'No doubt, death came to him. By Allah, I too wish him good, but by Allah, I do not know what Allah will do with me though I am Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). ' By Allah, I never attested the piety of anyone after that." Al-Laith also narrated as above
ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے لیث بن سعد نے کہا، ان سے عقیل نے، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ مجھے خارجہ بن زید بن ثابت نے خبر دی کہ ام العلاء رضی اللہ عنہا انصار کی ایک عورت نے جنہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے بیعت کی تھی، نے انہیں خبر دی کہ مہاجرین قرعہ ڈال کر انصار میں بانٹ دیئے گئے تو عثمان بن مظعون رضی اللہ عنہ ہمارے حصہ میں آئے۔ چنانچہ ہم نے انہیں اپنے گھر میں رکھا۔ آخر وہ بیمار ہوئے اور اسی میں وفات پا گئے۔ وفات کے بعد غسل دیا گیا اور کفن میں لپیٹ دیا گیا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم تشریف لائے۔ میں نے کہا ابوسائب آپ پر اللہ کی رحمتیں ہوں میری آپ کے متعلق شہادت یہ ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کی عزت فرمائی ہے۔ اس پر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا تمہیں کیسے معلوم ہوا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے ان کی عزت فرمائی ہے؟ میں نے کہا یا رسول اللہ! میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان ہوں پھر کس کی اللہ تعالیٰ عزت افزائی کرے گا؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا اس میں شبہ نہیں کہ ان کی موت آ چکی، قسم اللہ کی کہ میں بھی ان کے لیے خیر ہی کی امید رکھتا ہوں لیکن واللہ! مجھے خود اپنے متعلق بھی معلوم نہیں کہ میرے ساتھ کیا معاملہ ہو گا۔ حالانکہ میں اللہ کا رسول ہوں۔ ام العلاء رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ اللہ کی قسم! اب میں کبھی کسی کے متعلق ( اس طرح کی ) گواہی نہیں دوں گی۔
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:When my father was martyred, I lifted the sheet from his face and wept and the people forbade me to do so but the Prophet (ﷺ) did not forbid me. Then my aunt Fatima began weeping and the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is all the same whether you weep or not. The angels were shading him continuously with their wings till you shifted him (from the field)
ہم سے محمد بن بشار نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے غندر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے محمد بن منکدر سے سنا، انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا، انہوں نے کہا کہ جب میرے والد شہید کر دیئے گئے تو میں ان کے چہرے پر پڑا ہو کپڑا کھولتا اور روتا تھا۔ دوسرے لوگ تو مجھے اس سے روکتے تھے لیکن نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کچھ نہیں کہہ رہے تھے۔ آخر میری چچی فاطمہ رضی اللہ عنہا بھی رونے لگیں تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ تم لوگ روؤ یا چپ رہو۔ جب تک تم لوگ میت کو اٹھاتے نہیں ملائکہ تو برابر اس پر اپنے پروں کا سایہ کئے ہوئے ہیں۔ اس روایت کی متابعت شعبہ کے ساتھ ابن جریج نے کی، انہیں ابن منکدر نے خبر دی اور انہوں نے جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا۔
Narrated Abu Huraira:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) informed (the people) about the death of An-Najashi on the very day he died. He went towards the Musalla (praying place) and the people stood behind him in rows. He said four Takbirs (i.e. offered the Funeral prayer)
ہم سے اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے مالک نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابن شہاب نے، ان سے سعید بن مسیب نے، ان سے ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے نجاشی کی وفات کی خبر اسی دن دی جس دن اس کی وفات ہوئی تھی۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز پڑھنے کی جگہ گئے۔ اور لوگوں کے ساتھ صف باندھ کر ( جنازہ کی نماز میں ) چار تکبیریں کہیں۔
Narrated Anas bin Malik:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Zaid took over the flag and was martyred. Then it was taken by Jafar who was martyred as well. Then `Abdullah bin Rawaha took the flag but he too was martyred and at that time the eyes of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) were full of tears. Then Khalid bin Al-Walid took the flag without being nominated as a chief (before hand) and was blessed with victory
ہم سے ابومعمر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے عبدالوارث نے بیان کیا، ان سے ایوب نے، ان سے حمید بن بلال نے اور ان سے انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ زید نے جھنڈا سنبھالا لیکن وہ شہید ہو گئے۔ پھر جعفر نے سنبھالا اور وہ بھی شہید ہو گئے۔ پھر عبداللہ بن رواحہ نے سنبھالا اور وہ بھی شہید ہو گئے۔ اس وقت رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی آنکھوں میں آنسو بہ رہے تھے۔ ( آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ) اور پھر خالد بن ولید نے خود اپنے طور پر جھنڈا اٹھا لیا اور ان کو فتح حاصل ہوئی۔
Narrated Ibn `Abbas.:A person died and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to visit him. He died at night and (the people) buried him at night. In the morning they informed the Prophet (about his death). He said, "What prevented you from informing me?" They replied, "It was night and it was a dark night and so we disliked to trouble you." The Prophet (ﷺ) went to his grave and offered the (funeral) prayer
ہم سے محمد بن سلام بیکندی نے بیان کیا، انہیں ابومعاویہ نے خبر دی، انہیں ابواسحاق شیبانی نے، انہیں شعبی نے، ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا کہ ایک شخص کی وفات ہو گئی۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کی عیادت کو جایا کرتے تھے۔ چونکہ ان کا انتقال رات میں ہوا تھا اس لیے رات ہی میں لوگوں نے انہیں دفن کر دیا اور جب صبح ہوئی تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو خبر دی، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ( کہ جنازہ تیار ہوتے وقت ) مجھے بتانے میں ( کیا ) رکاوٹ تھی؟ لوگوں نے کہا کہ رات تھی اور اندھیرا بھی تھا۔ اس لیے ہم نے مناسب نہیں سمجھا کہ کہیں آپ کو تکلیف ہو۔ پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس کی قبر پر تشریف لائے اور نماز پڑھی۔
Narrated Anas:The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "A Muslim whose three children die before the age of puberty will be granted Paradise by Allah due to his mercy for them
ہم سے ابومعمر نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے عبدالوارث نے، ان سے عبدالعزیز نے اور ان سے انس رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ کسی مسلمان کے اگر تین بچے مر جائیں جو بلوغت کو نہ پہنچے ہوں تو اللہ تعالیٰ اس رحمت کے نتیجے میں جو ان بچوں سے وہ رکھتا ہے مسلمان ( بچے کے باپ اور ماں ) کو بھی جنت میں داخل کرے گا۔
Narrated Abu Sa`id:The women requested the Prophet, "Please fix a day for us." So the Prophet (ﷺ) preached to them and said, "A woman whose three children died would be screened from the Hell Fire by them," Hearing that, a woman asked, "If two died?" The Prophet (ﷺ) replied, "Even two (would screen her from the (Hell) Fire. " And Abu Huraira added, "Those children should be below the age of puberty
