Overview
Iman (Faith) is the foundation of Islamic belief, encompassing belief in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree. The Prophet ﷺ defined Iman through the famous Hadith of Jibreel as believing in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and predestination. Authentic hadiths reveal that Iman has over sixty branches, with the highest being the testimony of faith and the lowest being removing harm from the road.
Key Lessons
Faith is not static — it increases with obedience and decreases with sin. A believer must continually renew and strengthen their Iman through dhikr, knowledge, and righteous deeds. The concept of Iman also encompasses action of the heart, tongue, and limbs.
Practical Guidance
Strengthen your faith by learning the six pillars of Iman deeply, attending Islamic circles, reading Quran daily, and making dua for firm faith (thabaat). Recite "Allahumma thabbit qalbi ala dinik" regularly. Avoid sins that weaken faith and seek repentance immediately.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas:A man was crushed to death by his she-camel and was brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) who said, "Give him a bath and shroud him, but do not cover his head, and do not bring any perfume near to him, as he will be resurrected reciting Talbiya
ہم سے قتیبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے جریر نے بیان کیا، ان سے منصور نے، ان سے حکم نے، ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ ایک محرم شخص کے اونٹ نے حجۃ الوداع کے موقع پر اس کی گردن ( گرا کر ) توڑ دی اور اسے جان سے مار دیا، اس شخص کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے سامنے لایا گیا تو آپ نے فرمایا کہ انہیں غسل اور کفن دے دو لیکن ان کا سر نہ ڈھکو اور نہ خوشبو لگاؤ کیونکہ ( قیامت میں ) یہ لبیک کہتے ہوئے اٹھے گا۔
Narrated `Abdullah bin Hunain:`Abdullah bin Al-Abbas and Al-Miswar bin Makhrama differed at Al-Abwa'; Ibn `Abbas said that a Muhrim could wash his head; while Al-Miswar maintained that he should not do so. `Abdullah bin `Abbas sent me to Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari and I found him bathing between the two wooden posts (of the well) and was screened with a sheet of cloth. I greeted him and he asked who I was. I replied, "I am `Abdullah bin Hunain and I have been sent to you by Ibn `Abbas to ask you how Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) used to wash his head while in the state of Ihram." Abu Aiyub Al-Ansari caught hold of the sheet of cloth and lowered it till his head appeared before me, and then told somebody to pour water on his head. He poured water on his head, and he (Abu Aiyub) rubbed his head with his hands by bringing them from back to front and from front to back and said, "I saw the Prophet (ﷺ) doing like this
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم کو امام مالک نے خبر دی، انہیں زید بن اسلم نے، انہیں ابراہیم بن عبداللہ بن حنین نے، انہیں ان کے والد نے کہ عبداللہ بن عباس اور مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہم کا مقام ابواء میں ( ایک مسئلہ پر ) اختلاف ہوا۔ عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے مجھے ابوایوب رضی اللہ عنہ کے یہاں ( مسئلہ پوچھنے کے لیے ) بھیجا، میں جب ان کی خدمت میں پہنچا تو وہ کنوئیں کے دو لکڑیوں کے بیچ غسل کر رہے تھے، ایک کپڑے سے انہوں نے پردہ کر رکھا تھا میں نے پہنچ کر سلام کیا تو انہوں نے دریافت فرمایا کہ کون ہو؟ میں نے عرض کی کہ میں عبداللہ بن حنین ہوں، آپ رضی اللہ عنہ کی خدمت میں مجھے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بھیجا ہے یہ دریافت کرنے کے لیے کہ احرام کی حالت میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سر مبارک کس طرح دھوتے تھے۔ یہ سن کر انہوں نے کپڑے پر ( جس سے پردہ تھا ) ہاتھ رکھ کر اسے نیچے کیا۔ اب آپ کا سر دکھائی دے رہا تھا، جو شخص ان کے بدن پر پانی ڈال رہا تھا، اس سے انہوں نے پانی ڈالنے کے لیے کہا۔ اس نے ان کے سر پر پانی ڈالا، پھر انہوں نے اپنے سر کو دونوں ہاتھ سے ہلایا اور دونوں ہاتھ آگے لے گئے اور پھر پیچھے لائے فرمایا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو ( احرام کی حالت میں ) اسی طرح کرتے دیکھا تھا۔
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) delivering a sermon at `Arafat saying, "If a Muhrim does not find slippers, he could wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather, but he has to cut short the Khuffs below the ankles), and if he does not find an Izar (a waist sheet for wrapping the lower half of the body) he could wear trousers
ہم سے ابوالولید نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھے عمرو بن دینار نے خبر دی، انہوں نے جابر بن زید سے سنا، انہوں نے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے سنا، آپ نے کہا کہ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو عرفات میں خطبہ دیتے سنا تھا کہ جس کے پاس احرام میں جوتے نہ ہوں وہ موزے پہن لے اور جس کے پاس تہبند نہ ہو وہ پاجامہ پہن لے۔
Narrated `Abdullah:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was asked what sort of clothes a Muhrim should wear. He replied, "He should not wear a shirt, turbans, trousers, a hooded cloak, or a dress perfumed with saffron or Wars; and if slippers are not available he can wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather) but he should cut them so that they reach below the ankles
ہم سے احمد بن یونس نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے ابراہیم بن سعد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے ابن شہاب نے بیان کیا، ان سے سالم نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے پوچھا گیا کہ محرم کون سے کپڑے پہن سکتا ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ قمیص، عمامہ، پاجامہ اور برنس ( کن ٹوپ یا باران کوٹ ) نہ پہنے اور نہ کوئی ایسا کپڑا پہنے جس میں زعفران یا ورس لگی ہو اور اگر جوتیاں نہ ہوں تو موزے پہن لے، البتہ اس طرح کاٹ لے کہ ٹخنوں سے نیچے ہو جائیں۔
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:The Prophet (ﷺ) delivered a sermon at `Arafat and said, "Whoever does not get an Izar can wear trousers, and whoever cannot get a pair of shoes can wear Khuffs (socks made from thick fabric or leather)
ہم سے آدم بن ابی ایاس نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے عمرو بن دینار نے بیان کیا، ان سے جابر بن زید نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہم کو میدان عرفات میں وعظ سنایا، اس میں آپ نے فرمایا کہ اگر کسی کو احرام کے لیے تہبند نہ ملے تو وہ پاجامہ پہن لے اور اگر کسی کو جوتے نہ ملیں تو وہ موزے پہن لے۔
Narrated Al-Bara:The Prophet (ﷺ) assumed Ihram for Umra in the month of Dhul-Qa'da but the (pagan) people of Mecca refused to admit him into Mecca till he agreed on the condition that he would not bring into Mecca any arms but sheathed
ہم سے عبیداللہ بن موصلی نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے اسرائیل نے، انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم سے ابواسحاق نے بیان کیا اور ان سے براء رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ذی قعدہ میں عمرہ کیا تو مکہ والوں نے آپ کو مکہ میں داخل ہونے سے روک دیا، پھر ان سے اس شرط پر صلح ہوئی کہ ہتھیار نیام میں ڈال کر مکہ میں داخل ہوں گے۔
Narrated Ibn `Abbas:The Prophet (ﷺ) fixed Dhul-Hulaifa as the Miqat (the place for assuming Ihram) for the people of Medina, and Qaran-al-Manazil for the people of Najd, and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. These Mawaqit are for those people and also for those who come through these Mawaqit (from places other than the above-mentioned) with the intention of (performing) Hajj and Umra. And those living inside these Mawaqit can assume Ihram from the place where they start; even the people of Mecca can assume Ihram from Mecca
ہم سے مسلم بن ابراہیم نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے وہیب نے بیان کیا ان سے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مدینہ والوں کے لیے ذو الحلیفہ کو میقات بنایا، نجد والوں کے لیے قرن المنازل کو اور یمن والوں کے لیے یلملم کو۔ یہ میقات ان ملکوں کے باشندوں کے لیے ہے اور دوسرے ان تمام لوگوں کے لیے بھی جو ان ملکوں سے ہو کر مکہ آئیں اور حج اور عمرہ کا بھی ارادہ رکھتے ہوں، لیکن جو لوگ ان حدود کے اندر ہوں تو ان کی میقات وہی جگہ ہے جہاں سے وہ اپنا سفر شروع کریں یہاں تک کہ مکہ والوں کی میقات مکہ ہی ہے۔
Narrated Anas bin Malik:Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) entered Mecca in the year of its Conquest wearing an Arabian helmet on his head and when the Prophet (ﷺ) took it off, a person came and said, "Ibn Khatal is holding the covering of the Ka`ba (taking refuge in the Ka`ba)." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Kill him
ہم سے عبداللہ بن یوسف نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو امام مالک نے خبر دی، انہیں ابن شہاب زہری نے اور انہیں انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ نے آ کر خبر دی کہ فتح مکہ کے دن رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم جب مکہ میں داخل ہوئے تو آپ کے سر پر خود تھا۔ جس وقت آپ نے اتارا تو ایک شخص نے خبر دی کہ ابن خطل کعبہ کے پردوں سے لٹک رہا ہے آپ نے فرمایا کہ اسے قتل کر دو۔
Narrated Ya'li:While I was with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) there came to him a man wearing a cloak having a trace of yellowish perfume or a similar thing on it. `Umar used to say to me, "Would you like to see the Prophet (ﷺ) at the time when he is inspired divinely?" So, it happened that he was inspired (then) and when the inspiration was over the Prophet (ﷺ) said (to that man), "Do in your `Umra the same as you do in your Hajj
ہم سے ابوالولید نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے ہمام نے بیان کیا ہم سے عطاء نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے صفوان بن یعلیٰ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ان کے والد نے کہ میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھا کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں ایک شخص جو جبہ پہنے ہوئے تھا حاضر ہوا اور اس پر زردی یا اسی طرح کی کسی خوشبو کا نشان تھا۔ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ مجھ سے کہا کرتے تھے کیا تم چاہتے ہو کہ جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر وحی نازل ہونے لگے تو تم نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو دیکھ سکو؟ اس وقت آپ پر وحی نازل ہوئی پھر وہ حالت جاتی رہی۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جس طرح اپنے حج میں کرتے ہو اسی طرح عمرہ میں بھی کرو۔
A man bit the hand of another man but in that process the latter broke one incisor tooth of the former, and the Prophet (ﷺ) forgave the latter
ایک شخص نے دوسرے شخص کے ہاتھ میں دانت سے کاٹا تھا، دوسرے نے جو اپنا ہاتھ کھینچا تو اس کا دانت اکھڑ گیا نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کا کوئی بدلہ نہیں دلوایا۔
